What is SDRAM? SDRAM is an acronym for Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. The term "Synchronous" means that the clock cycle of the memory is exactly synchronized with the clock cycle of the bus. Every calculation and operation a PC performs is timed according to a clock ticking millions of times each second, its clock cycle or megahertz rating. If the memory clock cycle is not in sync with the bus clock cycle, system problems will occur. What is Cache Memory? Cache, pronounced "cash", is a high-speed memory designed to supply the processor with the most frequently requested data and instructions. The information located in the cache memory can be accessed many times faster than information in the system''s main memory. The more information your system can retrieve from the cache memory, the more efficient the system will run. Level 1 (L1) cache, also referred to as Primary Cache, is normally located inside the CPU chip. Level 2 (L2) cache, also referred to as Secondary Cache, was normally located on the system board near the CPU in the past. In today''s systems, both are physically located within the CPU and as a result are not upgradable.

Professional / Feel the need for Speed! If you are running multiple business applications, want to play the newer video games and/or work with graphics, you can get by with 256MB, but your computer speed would benefit greatly by having 512MB. Advanced Professional If you work with high-end graphics, software, digital images, or video, you can get by with 256MB, but would benefit greatly by installing 512MB of memory or more. Right now our 512MB memory modules are available at incredibly low prices. Graphics Design Professional If you are, or plan to be, a professional graphics designer, use CAD or modeling software, digital images or video, you can get by with 512MB, but would benefit from going to 1GB of memory or more. Will adding more RAM make my Internet surfing faster? The short answer is maybe. Internet browsing speed depends on a huge number of factors, including your connection speed, traffic on the site you''re visiting, and the other components in your system. You will probably notice the biggest improvement from additional RAM if are viewing or working with large files (such as photos and digital audio and video) or if you switch between your browser and other applications often, like to play games, or want to use your computer for viewing photos.

Today''s software has become more rapacious than ever—not just wanting faster processors, but faster graphics and more RAM. Layer these software programs on top of itself a memory-hungry operating system, and it becomes clear that more memory is better—up to a point. The good news is that memory is cheaper than ever, though the precipitous plummet in prices seems to have leveled off a bit lately. But the memory landscape is much more confusing than even a couple of years ago. The acronyms have evolved into a veritable alphabet soup of memory types: EDO, BEDO, SDRAM, FP, RAMBUS. Each new motherboard chipset that finds its way into your computer seems to want a different type of memory. Well, we''re here to help you sort through the memory types and walk you through the process of installation. This is a tough question. However, there are a couple of rules of thumb. First, know thy motherboard. You must be aware of what chipset you have in your system. It turns out that adding too much memory can actually slow down your computer. The reason for this is the L2 cache. Cache Level 1 and Level 2
